I create my small kiln-carved ornaments and suncatchers from all types of discarded glass destined for the landfill.
My molds are created with a custom combination of plaster and crystalline silica from my original clay sculptures. Once I am satisfied with my mold, I coat it with boron nitride, then gently lay out the glass pieces on top of the mold. Over time, I have developed a kiln firing schedule that both leaves a crisply carved replica of my sculpture in the glass and also maintains the extraordinary aspect of the original glass translucency.
